In 2024, the iconic Coke hat celebrates its 175th anniversary. Lock & Co. has partnered with the Royal School of Needlework for RSN x Bowler Hat to commemorate this milestone. The collaboration is a testament to the artistry of British heritage craftsmanship in creating and showcasing an exclusive range of bowler hats, each with a unique design and embellished using handmade ribbon work. Each beautiful bowler hat has its own story, brought to life by the meticulous finesse and design skills of the RSN degree students.
Dulcie Smith, a second-year student, is an embroiderer from southeast London. Her bowler hat ribbon design is inspired by the London transport system because “it is so iconic it's almost like a tourist attraction in itself but also helps Londoners get to work and school every day by being so accessible”. On the ribbon Dulcie has included a tube train and the different colours of all 11 of the London tube lines. A London red bus and different types of bikes have also been added, and she has included an adaptation of the River Thames to imply that all these transport systems help you get around London.
