In 2024, the iconic Coke hat celebrates its 175th anniversary. Lock & Co. has partnered with the Royal School of Needlework for RSN x Bowler Hat to commemorate this milestone. The collaboration is a testament to the artistry of British heritage craftsmanship in creating and showcasing an exclusive range of bowler hats, each with a unique design and embellished using handmade ribbon work. Each beautiful bowler hat has its own story, brought to life by the meticulous finesse and design skills of the RSN degree students.
Amelia is a second-year student who has designed and embroidered a Bowler hat ribbon which represents the era where it all began for Lock & Co, before colour existed. The colour palette represents the time when the world viewed everything in black and white. The initial process was to create a design which overflows with a range of hand embroidery techniques. The process used a variation of texture to create composition and volume using the colour black, creating a monochrome atmosphere. Amelia says: “Hand embroidery exploits freedom, individualism and exceeds the power of creativity."
